Lamai - Serengeti National Park - Tanzania

Lamai is part of the Nomad Safaris portfolio of camps and sits in the Northern Serengeti. It is a permanent camp but does close down during the peak of the rain season of April and May. The camp has two parts to it, one of which is the private section which has four rooms and it's own dining area and team looking after you. This is perfect for small groups and families to be exclusive.

The main camp has 8 rooms which are each a little different from each other because of the rocky environment they are in amongst, which is all very much part of the landscape here in the Northern Serengeti, bisected by the Mara River which essentially separates the Masai Mara from the Serengeti.

A key reason for you to go up to the North here is to witness the crossings of wildebeest and zebra across the Mara River, they typically would start arriving here from July but be at it's peak through August and September and then through October they are leaving the area and heading to the Southern parts of the Serengeti for the calving period.

A key thing to consider here is that there are over 70 camps just on the Tanzanian side of the Mara River so at this key time of the migration you should expect that sightings will be at times chaotic with too many vehicles and few viewing points. It is an amazing spectacle of wildlife but in my opinion oversubscribed by tourism so I would consider a good time to be here is out of the main season of July to September and look at Mid October onwards, still very good game viewing with the resident animals and you may see the odd small herd crossing the river with far viewer vehicles around.
